Students

St. Joseph School offers classes beginning with Pre-School for 3 and 4 year old children and continuing through grade eight. Our students fall within the normal range of ability levels, although supplemental instruction is available for those students identified as having a need for additional services. At the Kindergarten level, we offer three options: All Day, Extended Day, and Transition. The Transition class is designed for young 5 year olds, or any Kindergarten age student who would benefit from having another year of school before entering the regular Kindergarten program. Students in the Transition class must reach the age of 5 by Dec. 31 st. Students in the extended day program are given the same amount of Reading and Math instruction as the All Day class, along with their other subject areas. Students in the All Day Kindergarten program are given more extensive projects to work on and may also branch out into additional work in the areas of Science and Social Studies. Our student population is generally around 500, with double grades at every level. We have self-contained classes through grade 4, located in our Lower School building. The Upper School houses students in grades five through eight. Students in grades six through eight are fully departmentalized and have a rotating schedule of classes, similar to the classic Junior High model. In addition to the regular academic program, students also have specialty teachers in the areas of Religion, Computer, Physical Education, Music and Art.

Our population includes students from many different cultural backgrounds, although the majority of students are Caucasian.
