As part of our May Student Safety month activities, we are providing you with information to ensure safe surfing for all students. As technology has gotten more and more sophisticated and our children have become more tech savvy than we ever were at their age, this becomes a whole new area of concern. The internet is a wonderful tool that can open many doors. Unfortunately, some of those doors lead to unsafe areas and it is up to you to help safeguard them as they surf the internet.

Use the parental controls provided by your internet company, check the sites they are visiting and take advantage of the links that have been provided on this page that give you more ways to keep your students safe. I am sure you have told your children never to open the door to a stranger when they are home alone. What they don’t always realize is that the person they are chatting with on their favorite buddy site could very well be someone they should never “let in” either…..

The Internet has many sources of information to help you keep your children safe both on and off the 'net. We've attempted to list some of the sites dealing with Internet Safety that we find to be especially helpful to both children and adults. Visit the sites listed in the right-hand margin of this page. Read through the valuable information listed on each site and discuss what you find. Print out the appropriate checklists and answer the questions to give yourself an honest assessment of your Internet Safety Skills. It is only through the active involvement of parents and teachers that we can keep our kids safe while using the Internet.
