The music curriculum at St. Joseph School has been designed to provide students the opportunity to explore and experience music in a way that feels most comfortable and natural for them. All of our weekly classes incorporate the National Standards of Music Education as defined by MENC.
Our published classroom music program is Silver, Burdett’s MAKING MUSIC (formerly THE MUSIC CONNECTION).
It is supplemented, at all levels, by the many resources I have collected during my 10 years of teaching general music at St. Joseph School, as well as my private piano studio instruction:
MUSIC ALIVE - A monthly magazine geared for middle school students that highlights contemporary artists and issues in the music industry today, as well as careers in music and articles on world music and various composers.
IN TUNE MONTHLY - The music magazine for players and singers, middle school and high school.
MUSIC EXPRESS: THE MUSIC RESOURCE FOR GROWING MINDS - From the music starter phrase of the month, to the Recorder Report, Hop ‘Til You Drop, and Sing on Sight; this magazine geared to K-5 by John Jacobsen does it all. You will hear many of these original songs, as well as those from MUSIC K-8 MAGAZINE highlighted below during our Christmas and Spring Concerts.
MUSIC K-8 - Teresa and Paul Jenning’s fantastic resource magazine for Elementary and Middle School Music Teachers includes songs that teach concepts, self esteem, recorder, boom whackers: you name it, it’s there in a way that brings lots of smiles and good times to our classroom.
A less intimidating website that is more geared to students and their families than music educators created by the Jennings can be found at MOOTOOB MOOSIC.
